English description provided by the architects.
In Valdecorvos, four freestanding buildings weave a dialogue between architecture, landscape, and community life to shape 74 public housing units.
The complex is located in one of Pontevedra's main expansion areas, next to Parque das Regas, in an environment where proximity to green spaces becomes an opportunity rather than a limitation.
Commissioned by the IGVS, the project presented the challenge of reconciling high-density public housing with residential quality and sustainability, while also adapting the volumes to the irregular layout of Rúa Prado Novo.
The response is articulated through four blocks—one square and three rectangular—whose arrangement, with slight angles between them, follows the geometry of the street and generates open spaces that act as connectors for meeting and socializing.
This layout also favors the entry of natural light, cross ventilation, and visual permeability between the volumes.
The architectural image is resolved using three materials working in different registers: corrugated metal sheeting on the shared plinth, which unifies the base of the complex;
ETICS on the upper floors, providing continuity and energy efficiency; and wood on the terraces and balconies, introducing warmth and human scale.
This combination carries its logic into the interior of the homes, where the ground floors open onto private gardens and the upper floors onto spacious terraces, extending the living space outdoors and ensuring comfortable conditions in all units.
The result is an efficient, sustainable, and low-maintenance construction model that does not merely fulfill the residential program, but instead weaves a close relationship with its immediate surroundings.
Valdecorvos thus establishes itself as a livable and integrated space, where public architecture also plays an active role in building community.
