The Operations and Maintenance Building is north of Hub 08, which is the gateway to the northern side of the park.
The landscape concept for the Operations and Maintenance building is to provide a green aspect that carries on from the green roof of Hub 08 and conceals the back-of-house delivery areas and parking from view.
The green facade of the outer building forms three bands of green that undulate along the primary access road and provide a pleasant edge to an otherwise industrial use.
KEY LANDSCAPE ELEMENTS INCLUDE
- Undulating green facade shelter building comprised of lattice and vines.
- Southern gateway entrance to operations and entrance to the buildings, parking structure, and deliveries.
- Covered seating area at the southern entrance.- North west gateway entrance for park staff, maintenance, and deliveries.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
The Operational and Maintenance Building is located in the Utility area just North of Hub 8, the Sports Hub, positioned right on one of the main spine roads into the Park.
A location is primarily derived from its logistical support function for the park as a whole.
Due to the building's proximity to the park's arrival from the North, the primary design feature is the artificial hill created around the property edge to hide the utilitarian function behind.
The building accommodates the main control room at the top with the maintenance and utilitarian program at the ground floor level.
As the building can be seen from the high properties within the park, and In line with its facilitating function to the park, the building is engulfed and covered by 'green waves' of landscaped structure, effectively forming the entire envelope of the building.
These green waves roll, as it were, in the prevailing North South direction of the building, while in the other direction they are cut vertically, shifted and stacked, hence forming a dynamic geometry of six large 'ribbons', providing solid shading and protection from the Southern solar impact with dynamic 'adjustable' openings oriented in the East-West direction, allowing for measured daylight and vision, according to orientation and functional requirement.
The design will create a professional, innovative, and creative built-up environment for users. The designs reflect KSP principles of sustainability, functionality, efficiency, flexibility, and constructability.
