With the aim of making the town more inclusive and accessible to all citizens, the Municipal Chamber of Coruche has decided to promote two projects for the urban perimeter of Calçadinha, named "Mobility for All in Calçadinha" and "Landscape Redevelopment of Calçadinha."
The project focuses on urban mobility, establishing a universal connection between the lower and upper levels of the town with the installation of an elevator.
The elevator is associated with a viewpoint and a pathway along the top of Church Hill. This pathway crosses over the Calçadinha staircase through a second walkway that ends in the square next to Estrada da Lamorosa.
The rehabilitation of the Calçadinha staircase ensures a comfortable crossing through a more direct route, with the restoration of exceptional elements such as water springs.
Along the Calçadinha, seating areas are established, allowing for stops and including the possibility of bicycle use.
The project also encompasses the reorganization of parking spaces at the lower levels near the elevator, enabling the creation of a new public sidewalk and an ecological island to support the surrounding buildings, as well as the landscape redevelopment of the surrounding hillside.
The Landscape Redevelopment of Calçadinha covers the Church Hill and the Quinta do Lago Hill. Existing pathways are restored through the consolidation of the pavement, which allows for the expansion of the overall network of existing paths.
Maintenance and cleaning of existing shrub areas were carried out, removing invasive species.
The intervention at Quinta do Lago involves the recovery of the area adjacent to the tank and water spring, through its repaving, reorganization of urban furniture, and prior installation of infrastructure, which will allow for the future implementation of an Urban Equipment.
The project on the Church Hill was designed based on its potential to be a leisure area and urban park for Coruche.
In the promontory area, the viewpoint is located, articulated with the Elevator.
