"INHERIT" explores how architecture can retain and extend the invisible layers of a place — its history, its memories, and the quiet spirit that lives within the land.
The site sits on Miyako Island, a place shaped by wind, strong sunlight, coral stone, and the intimate scale of the island's communities. Rather than erasing these traces, the project seeks to let the land speak.
The house was designed by preserving the inherent potential of the site: the direction of the wind, the softness of shadow, the way the ground holds time, and the atmosphere left by the people who lived there before.
These unseen qualities guided the spatial configuration and the placement of openings, creating a home that breathes with its surroundings.
Through a restrained palette of concrete, natural light, and subtle transitions, the architecture becomes a vessel in which the past and present quietly co-exist.
The residence also includes a small Pilates studio, where light and stillness amplify the meditative qualities of the space.
The project does not aim to create something new in isolation. Instead, it inherits the land — allowing new life to unfold while holding onto what was already there.
The film and photographs capture moments where light, material, and silence interact: long shadows moving across textured concrete, soft reflections shaped by Okinawa's subtropical light, and the slow, almost timeless quality of the home.
