Building regulations not only exist, to lay upon us how deep, how high and where we can build. No. Such regulations are there to be challenged.
This residence translates the ‘different way of thinking’ through its atypical roof - two plates sloping towards the core of the building, creating a strong axis which is only broken by an inner courtyard.
The courtyard, at the heart of the house, provides natural daylight to its surroundings and creates a link between the main-functions of this one-story residence; living- and dining area, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom and entrance hall.
This results in a sunbathed living space, creating transparency and a sense of wide spaces, without confining the privacy of its inhabitants.
The axis cuts through the house, accentuated by a closed borderline, creating an immediate contrast between the two sides – the open and the closed.
The borderline, consisting of one long-stretched cupboard, provides hiding and access to secondary functions; office, guestroom, storage and garage.
