SUMMARY

Exposed block work walls, large areas of glazing and an industrial aesthetic define this sustainable and minimal, light filled family home

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

By extending and reconfiguring the plan a sustainable, minimal and light filled family home was created with open plan kitchen, dining and living areas opening directly to the outside via frameless triple glazed windows and sliding door.

We inserted views through the house from the front door to increase the sense of space and connection with the garden.

Industrial materials are exposed, utilised and celebrated in a minimalist fashion whilst externally, black paint unifies the new machine made and the existing hand made brickwork.

Internally a black painted efficient and compact central core conceals the study, the bathrooms, utility and storage to maximise the living areas.

The project uses Passive Input Ventilation and high levels of insulation to new and existing areas together with triple glazing to improve thermal performance and reduce traffic noise.

The concrete floor with underfloor heating also acts as a thermal store which all help to create an energy efficient home.
