On an elevated plateau, directly at the sloping side and edge of the village Rodeneck, the new Elementary/Primary School finds its place.

Its voluminous figure gives itself catchy and recognisable, even so from the valley below or the opposite hillside. The new school building is succeeding the former, which lies close behind and is currently transformed into an adjacent kindergarten.

Both buildings will prospectively be approached through the same entrance and vestibule. With their integrated public functions, they will also complete the village’s compact infrastructure.

Due to the sloping position of the school building, a single sided natural lighting concept was applied. It was therefore possible to assign a youth centre to the basement floor.

Auditorium and Refectory are connected by the ground floors entree and can be merged for public events. In both upper floors, side rooms are facing the village, while all class rooms scenically oversee the valley below.

The slightly sloped roof typologically involves the building into its environment and differentiates the interior of the second upper floor from the almost identical floor below.

The supporting structure was conducted as conventional concrete-framework with stiffening cores. Opaque exterior walls are furnished with a composite heat insulation system.

The plasters surface was napped with a texture-roll after applying and standouts smoothened past a short drying time.

On the extended building front, protruding window-frames with alu-cladding, line-up to horizontal bands. Large format safety glazing open the class room on its entire width to the landscape, but settle only on a 35cm high parapet, which can be used as window bench.

A flush-mount aperture gives the opportunity for natural aeration, supplementary to the mechanical ventilation with thermal-recovery.

While the monochrome colouration gives the building a deliberately restrained appearance, the interior presents itself primarily in a strong red colour.
