We create a club that restores the rich culture, passing our will on to the next generations to foster people who can contribute to the global community. (From the website of Tokyo Classic)
These two constructions were designed based on the idea of the owner who intended to realize a true country club unlike any other that would change the way of spending leisure time that was lacking maturity in this international city of Tokyo.
In response to the idea of placing a clubhouse with an equestrian club and cultivation at the core, the landscape design was decided with the stable and arena on the west side of the road where the Japanese cedars were planted, and with the clubhouse on the east side where bamboo-leaf oaks were planted, facing each other in a good distance in the grid of planted trees.
Considering the comfort of the horses first, the stable faces southeast, adopting the semi open European style stable with 20 stalls of 3m x 3.6m.
The stable has extended roof sustained by 6 m 2x4 joists to provide a roof covered tractor yard.
Curved tips of the 60cm-pitched joists ensure the ventilation.
The grass-covered roof was meant to provide the insulation and the continuation of the landscape from the golf course.
In terms of the clubhouse, we intended to create a transparent structure in the woods that contains functions of a shop, day care, kitchen, crafting and relaxing.
Imitating the grid of the planted bamboo-leaf oaks and the diameters of their trunks, the building is structured with 4m square grid and 30cm square concrete pillars (CH3450), and the wooden cores of h2400 determined the function of each section.
We are proud that the view from the terrace surrounded by the skeleton frames, overlooking the tree canopies as you go up the simple steel-framed stairs, with the total feel of the clubhouse and refreshing green of the stable roof helped to realize the country club life that bears the name of ‘TOKYO CLASSIC’.
