Located at the end of a driveway by the railway side, this grindstone house has undergone an inside-out transformation.
The extension evolves around the existing house creating an enclosure that connects both front and backyards.
It hosts a kitchen, a living area with a dining room overlooking the frontyard terrasse, a workshop and a child's bedroom that opens out over the back yard garden.
The extension is covered with a double-pitched zinc roof to interact with the shape of the existing roof.
The red brick facade draws it's color from some details found on the existing facade.
Due to the house's proximity to the railway, all the windows have received a high performance acoustic treatment.
The outdoor areas have also been thought in a way to bring coherence to the whole.
The backyard garden has been conceived as a patio surrounded by an array of bamboo to filter the view over the railway lines while creating an interesting pattern noticeable from the entrance of the house.
In the frontyard, an old garden shed was cladded with wooden strips inorder to create an echo using a similar material.
