Gallery, a project by JQTS - João Quintela (PT) + Tim Simons (DE), is placed in front of the original building that hosted previous editions of Walk&Talk before the building’s subsequent sale and the finding of a new venue.
The location as well as the title of the project is a reference to Walk&Talk’s own history. The pavilion’s basic element is a triangular frame made of local Cryptomeria wood that, through the repetition of 18 identical rooms, allows itself as a reading of a space, a building, or even a new reality.
At its highest point, the pavilion has a main room visible from the outside but reachable only by passing through a labyrinth of each of these 18 rooms.
Mimicking a sightline from a castle’s apex, the viewer becomes the physical and haptic centre-point of the Atlantic promenade below. It creates a new diagonal axis from the city towards the ocean, encouraging a dialogue between the tower of the theatre and the former Walk&Talk gallery.
