AN URIGINAL CHURCH
On the tropical coast, south of the Sierra Nevada, and very close to the sea, rises a slim tower, announcing the presence of a new church.
On one façade, a young vine appears to reclaim its architecture from nature. The church is a simple piece of concrete, close and accessible, located among the trees of an open garden.
The challenge of building a spiritual space led us to not invent anything new but rather to look to the tradition of the early christian times.
For this reason, the space can be called original because it makes reference to the origins, in the same way that it could be called unoriginal for the architect has limited themselves to copy of their hand and in a contemporary language, a text that has been written twenty centuries ago, passed down from generation to generation.
The light is the primary matter of the work. Through it, the idea of God as the light of the world is materialized.
In the temple, there are three apertures for the light - making reference to the Holy Trinity.
The first is through a skylight on the East side, through which the sun represents the resurrection of Christ and illuminates the altar.
At the West, above the choir, perforations in the concrete allow the afternoon light to filter and project the motif of a cross on the altar.
Finally, the last appears on the South wall, as a concrete lattice borders the gardens and the central nave.
