We find many older homes share two key problems: poor natural light and deficient space planning. So too did this Parkville home.
This new communal family zone features clerestory windows, capturing northern light and drawing it deep into the home.
Our solution is a confident, single intervention: a glazed atrium dining room linking the disparate spaces, bringing the whole building light literally and figuratively.
Picture sliding doors open onto a sun-filled courtyard. For the first time the home ventilates effectively - drawing through cooling breezes in summer when they’re most needed.
In this home a rethink of the studio creates two cosy children’s bedrooms - or for the future a teenager’s retreat, accommodation for elderly parents or even a lease-ready dwelling with separate entrance.
