The B&B is located on the bank of Fuxian Lake in Yunnan, China. The goal of Eight Types in Rural Construction is to find out suitable local architectural prototypes on the premise of design dialectical thinking.
The architect had lived for a long time in the site for secondary design and participated in the construction.
He studied the uncertainty of local handicraft materials from the current perspective of business model, emotion, nature, technology and social activities, including long-term perception of the site with its changes.
The Brick Building is renovated architecture with natural ventilation, and its customed brick-sized windows are built as the outlets to breathe for brick walls.
Concrete walls poured with old blue brick formwork present the regeneration of old craftsmanship.
The Floating House is built on the stone base of local traditional residential building, with the curved frame of a boat as the roof.
The building of half-house and half-boat mixes the functions of living and entertainment, and the materials of stone and brick also mix the customary construction methods.
The Clay Screen improves defects of local soil foundation wall in waterproof, structure and permeability and make it available for the moment.
When The Clay Screen becomes a corridor for people to walk both inside and on the top, it turns into a house.
The Rain Pavilion is two walls with eaves. The main function of tiles is converted into a load-bearing wall and the tiles can still be used for drainage in rainy days. The two eaves enclose the inner space.
If the houses existed, the eaves enclose the outer space, and the inside and outside of the space changes when people change his mind. People can observe the rain in the pavilion when it rains slightly, and when it rains heavily, the rainwater will cover the entire site.
By that time everything returns to nature, the pavilion becomes ruin of walls only with cornices, which might be the original truth of the rain pavilion.
The Bamboo Pavilion is a pavilion built with waste stones dug up from the ground and it becomes a natural leisure space by planting bamboo. Workers dug up the waste stones in a way that was wide at the bottom and narrow on the top.
The construction maintains this natural gravity form without bonding with mortar. The transverse reinforcement is used to enhance the earthquake resistance.
The Tile Pavilion is the combination of local handicrafts and modern steel structure construction in different periods.
The Slope Pavilion simulates the construction of people in the mountains and forests. The basic actions of earthwork digging and filling lead to logical follow-up: light and heavy, man-made and native, revealing and hiding, gathering and dispersing.
The Original Walls are slight renovation for reuse of old building walls.
