Coit Memorial Tower, also known as Coit Tower, is situated at the top of Telegraph Hill in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco.
Designed by noted San Francisco architect Arthur Brown, Jr., the tower’s construction was spurred by the generosity of Lillie Hitchcock Coit, a lifelong booster and honorary member of the San Francisco Fire Department.
Coit Tower was chosen as the venue for the first Depression era Public Works Art Project endeavor in California.
Today, over 150,000 visitors visit this San Francisco Landmark each year to view the Coit Tower murals and ride the elevator to the observation deck.
ARG performed a condition assessment and building code analysis. ARG’s report also made recommendations for improving circulation, building code compliance, and accessibility, and incorporated the findings of consultants regarding mural conservation, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
