Collision of Inspiration and Nature —— Sanbaopeng LKKER Jingdezhen Ceramic Design CenterSanbaopeng LKKER Jingdezhen ceramic design center locates on a slope in Sanbao valley in Jingdezhen, with a stream running through it.
We hoped to make use of the original natural environment around the site to inspire the designers in space, meanwhile to enable the space itself to build a deep connection with ceramic art.
To accomplish that, we gave an answer of a sagger placing on both banks of the stream.Sagger is a type of utensil which has been used since Song Dynasty to put porcelain body in while producing ceramics, so that the flame and smoke can be prevented.
The ceramic design center is a giant sagger—containing the contemporary design innovations and traditional craft of porcelain.
The circular sagger floats above the stream, providing a panoramic view outwards, while enclosing a courtyard with a stream going through inwards.
The floor of the building follows the fluctuation of the terrain, and the interior space is naturally separated to two parts on different elevations.
The Façade of the building is made of a copper tile system. The screen-like pattern of tiles controls the interior daylighting while the constant rusting of copper provides a sagger-like color and texture.
