Basis studio has received a lot of positive feedback from users of the public space thanks to civic engagement and the high quality of the implemented project.

The architects managed to find common ground between residents and real estate developers and channel the situation in a positive direction.

The embankment in Pavshinska Poima is a project that Basis has been working on for the sixth year and continues to work on.

At the initial stage of the project, the bureau held public hearings and actively worked with the residents of the district.

Thanks to this and the high-quality implementation of the project, positive feedback from users of the public space is now coming to the Basis social network.

The architects managed to neutralize the brewing conflict between residents and residential real estate developers and direct the situation in a positive direction.

The design and functions of the embankment in Pavshinskaya Poyma are determined by the context. It is a 'buffer zone' between two large 'clusters': the dense residential development without courtyards and the large shopping and exhibition complex located on the opposite side of the river.

The area is used by the residents of the neighborhood as a community space and by the residents of Krasnogorsk as a downtown area. These groups with different interests had to be separated while creating universal elements that all groups could use if they wished.

The design and functions of the embankment in the Pavshinskaya Poima are dictated by the context - it is a "buffer zone" between two large "clusters": an adjacent dense residential development without courtyards and a giant trade and exhibition complex located on the opposite side of the river.

Thus, this territory is used by the residents of the district as a house, and by the residents of Krasnogorsk as an urban area - these flows of people with different interests had to be separated, while creating universal elements that all groups could, if desired, use.

The amphitheater, for example, is designed with ergonomically shaped backrests with different inclinations making it comfortable to both sit on and lay back as on a lounge chair.

Residents from nearby can work on their laptops, sunbathe or do yoga, while those who come for a walk can listen to an evening concert, meet friends or just relax by the water.

The promenade is designed with a variety of wide and narrow zones. The wider areas have different functions: a green space with benches and old willow trees, sun loungers with new trees, picnic areas by the water, an amphitheater. The narrower areas are transit, with only a pedestrian zone, a running track and illumination.

For example, the amphitheater is designed in such a way that, thanks to ergonomic backs with different slopes, it is convenient to sit and reclining on it, like on a deck chair. Residents of the nearest house can go downstairs to work with a laptop, sunbathe, do yoga, and those who come for a walk can listen to an evening concert, meet friends or just relax by the water.

The formation of the embankment is built on the alternation of wide and narrow zones. Wider areas are reserved for various functions - a green space with benches and an old willow, sun loungers with new trees, picnic areas by the water, an amphitheater. Narrower zones are transit zones, there is only a jogging and walking zone with a track with lighting.

Ivan Ohapkin, head of the Basis studio: 'We created this feeling of entering a new room through a corridor. In addition to visual diversity, such transit areas make it possible to avoid oversaturating the place and to make the key attraction points less crowded. Without the different zones, the promenade between the two urbanised 'clusters' would become overcrowded with people and functions, making it an uncomfortable place to be in. We have separated the pedestrian flows by making an upper and lower promenade, which is easy to access with an extensive pathway system."

Ivan Okhapkin, head of the Basis bureau: “The effect of falling through the corridor into a new room was created. In addition to visual diversity, such transit barriers make it possible to avoid hyper-saturation of space and make the epicenters of attraction not very crowded.

Without alternation of zones, the embankment between two urbanized "clusters" could become oversaturated with people and functions, and it would be uncomfortable to be here. We separated pedestrian flows, making the upper and lower embankments, which are easy to get to with the help of an extensive system of paths.”

The design emphasises the natural feel of the space: healthy trees have been preserved and new moisture-loving maples and willows have been planted, which will soon provide shade meanwhile creating a lively atmosphere. It's easy to access the water, where you can have a picnic or just sit by the river.

Its natural component is emphasized in the space: healthy trees have been preserved, new moisture-loving maples and willows have been planted, which will soon give shade, and now create a lively atmosphere. Access to the water is open, where you can have a picnic by the river or just sit in the shade of the trees.

The paving pattern is inspired by the natural gradient of the river, changing gently from darker tones by the water to lighter ones by the shore. The ripples in the pavement pattern echo the ripples in the water. The retaining walls use arch concrete with a geometric pattern, emphasizing the play of light and shadow.

Dotted ripples in the coating pattern repeat the ripples on the water. Arch-concrete with a geometric pattern was used on the preserved retaining walls, emphasizing the play of light and shadow.

The new lower embankment makes it easy to access any point of public space from the courtyards of the high-rise buildings (the 'quiet zone'). The quiet zone was the first to be designed; this area has strong winds between buildings. With this in mind, the studio designed beehive-shaped pergolas with swings, whose main function is to diminish the winds and provide shelter from sun and rain.

It was important to accurately design the landscape: a large number of pyramidal poplar trees have been planted around the perimeter of the courtyard to protect it from wind and noise. The studio also designed bespoke complex parametric benches, low stage areas and paving to suit the design concept for this area.

Thanks to the appearance of a new lower embankment, it is now easy to get from the courtyards of high-rise buildings to any point of the public space. The Quiet Zone was the very first to be designed; this area is a heavily ventilated well between the houses. Responding to the challenge, the bureau developed honeycomb-shaped pergolas with swings, the main function of which is to break winds, protect from the sun and precipitation. For such a territory, it was important to choose the right landscaping - a large number of pyramidal poplars were planted along the perimeter of the yard, protecting the yard from wind and noise. Especially for the office space, complex parametric benches, low stage platforms and design-appropriate paving were developed.
