The Academic Building was designed to house teaching activities - classrooms, library, laboratories and computer rooms, and administrative and service areas necessary for the proper functioning of academic and university extension programs.

The building has two levels: the ground level, with a public character, houses the secretary, library, living areas and some teaching activities as classrooms and computer rooms. The upper level houses most teaching activities (classrooms, computer rooms and laboratories).

The entrance is concentrated in a single hall to ensure safety and control. Through this hall is an interior courtyard to allow the integration of visual environments and to produce a mild climate, very important in the dry months of Brasilia, provided by the exchange of air and moisture resulting from transpiration from vegetation.

The vertical circulation is distributed in a ramp, two cores with stairs and an elevator for the handicapped. Also, we designed two sets of restrooms on each side of the building, on the ground and the upper floors.

Access to the auditorium with capacity for 220 seats is contiguous to the entrance hall allowing community use without interfering with the academic activities of the upper floor. The library, located on the opposite side, seeks to ensure privacy and is ideal as a study and research environment.

The architectural concept privileges the environmental comfort of the building to ensure the quality of environments. All roofs have tiles clad with acoustic and thermal insulation.

The facades are treated with constructive elements such as brise-soleil, which protect them from the heat during the morning or afternoon. This results in a rhythmic and elegant facade. These also serve for the safety of the building, subject to visibility and natural lighting. The frames were set in aluminum with ordinary windows, dimensions that ensure ease of cleaning and care.

The water, sewer, electrical, and fire facilities and infrastructure were designed considering the multitude of activities and public / community that will take place in the space. These additional projects are also designed with cost efficiency principles and ease of maintenance.

The structure of the building consists of a reinforced concrete prefabricated construction system, except in the auditorium, which due to the large spans was designed with a mixed system of reinforced concrete on slabs and pillars, and metal beams.

We prepared a basic design for the concrete structure, and the contracted companies developed the executive project with mixed and pre-fabricated systems according to the specifications and sizes of their differentiated constructive parts.

The roof is made of metal tiles clad with acoustic and thermal protection materials, supported on metal beams.

The organization of the spaces was designed on a modular grid of 1.25 x 1.25 m, which conditions the layout of spaces.

The main goal, besides promoting order and clarity, was to ensure the flexibility mentioned above.

Within the philosophy of flexibility, the building adapts to the need of construction facilities.

Any modification involves the use of electrical, plumbing, sewer and relocation of special facilities. The vertical electrical facilities are exposed and the horizontal facilities are embedded in removable liner.

As this building was designed to be repeated, each Academic Building was restudied according to the program needs of colleges and institutes, however, always following the logical location of the activities, facilities, and vertical cores indicated in the initial design.
