The project resolves a lecture room building program, Research Laboratories, Departments and Research area with the corresponding common services and the Administration and Direction pavilion in order to accommodate the Technical Engineering School of the University of Valencia ETSE with a built surface area of ​​33,248 m² in which the departments of Computer Science, Electronic Engineering and Chemistry are included for the time being.

The possibility of taking up a large available land: 42,800 m².

The weather in the area and the teaching usage of the space suggest an extensive occupation, low height, organized in scattered pavilions inside a wooded garden as the most effective system to ensure maximum climate and energetic comfort while fusing the architecture with the place on a continuous inside-outside through an undifferentiated horizontal section, empowering to the maximum common areas as relational spaces intermixed with all the wooded garden.

The layout of the pavilions in a comb manner is articulated through a series of orthogonal circulations that colonize and entirely advertise the field to the rhythm of the occupation of the pavilions in the transverse direction, longitudinal streets at different levels and vertical communication cores, sewing interlinked spaces to form a simple and effective three-dimensional mesh to ensure a greater accessibility and functional relationship between them as well as their necessary interconnection.

The inherent schematic procedure to this type of solution means a clear advantage related to the changing conditions of use associated to this type of buildings and, somehow, it’s the price the project pays to give the best response to this, considering that any formally compliant solution that crystallizes in a temporal moment, an specific and functional program would be a rigid shape that strangles the future ordered use.

Thus, the constant background transversal industrial unit construction oriented to north to south, arranged in comb manner, with the maximum glazing area discharging to the wooded grounds and the perimeter distribution of the facilities that empties the industrial units, allows any optimum distribution of the laboratories or offices adjusting their size, moving only the transverse partitions or, otherwise, using all or part of the available space.
