This house had been sitting on the market for a few years, in short sale.
SPACE Architecture + Planning's clients, looking for a family home with plenty of room for the kids, fell in love with it and its unusually large yard and lot (for Chicago).
This landmark presented several challenges, least of which was the outdated interior and poorly planned living spaces.
All systems were updated, a modern addition was added to the rear of the house, to update the living layout, creating a family room/kitchen/mudroom and breakfast area for this larger family (4 kids!).
The addition provide the opportunity to add a deck off the second floor, creating a very inviting deck off the home office for our client. All of the interior finishes were replaced and redesigned.
The second floor master suite was redesigned to provide a much more peaceful retreat for the homeowners.
The third floor was devoted to the kids, including a new second stair – the original house only had means of egress from the top floor, which did not meet code.
The yard was enclosed with a new 4 car garage, providing a safe area for the kids to play on the new sport court.
SPACE Architecture + Planning feel they achieved their goal of turning this house into a home.
