This LEED silver certified residence hall is the first project to be developed as part of Roger Williams University's 2007 residential master plan.
Designed by Perkins+Will, the new 350-bed residence hall will anchor the development of north campus growth. The project will accommodate a mandate that will increase on-campus housing to 80% enrollment.
Designed on the stratum of campus geometries, the south bar of the building concentrates the existing campus grid while the north bar of suites shifts to the north campus.
The bend in the building forms a new west courtyard, and frames dramatic views to Mount Hope Bay facing east.
The program of space in the bend is primarily dedicated to common uses, providing community activity space for the entire campus including a great room, seminar, study rooms, and a game room.
A major pedestrian path that connects the academic core with the parking structure on the far north edge of campus charts a course directly through the project site, and separates the common space from the apartments and suites at ground level.
The floors are connected on upper levels through bridges that also form a gateway into the courtyard.
The 350 beds have been programmed to meet the needs of upper class students, and are grouped in a combination of six types of apartments and suites.
The apartments have full kitchens and include units for six-persons, four-persons, and single capacity. The majority of units have double bedrooms, with a limited percentage of single bedrooms.
