The Kiosk is located in the Park of the Bundesgartenschau in Potsdam, Germany. As an extension to an existing café it is selling ice cream, lemonade and coffee.

The environment of the park was basis of the conception to work with a natural unrefined material. This material itself should define the design of the kiosk and provide the structural support.

A kiosk is a small, separated garden pavilion open on some or all sides. In the Islamic culture it was constructed by rough tree trunks that supported a roof made of straw or wood.

By reducing the buckling length and by diagonal bracings the wall has been reinforced and is stable. The joints of the branches have been connected by wire-tying, in order to keep them from shifting.

The inner shell of the kiosk is made of multi-wall panels and has no structural function. It protects the interior from water and “catches” the shadow of the woven willow branches.
