Text description provided by architect.
This 1,500 sqm addition to the TRUMPF companies is located in Hettingen, Germany a small village in the Swabian Alb, mountains to the south of Stuttgart. Forests, rock-outcroppings, and the meandering Lauchhart trout stream on the valley floor mark the picturesque valley it is located in.
The addition essentially caps-off the existing factory and fronts the valley to the north, like a dam, marking a final completion of the village at this approach. The north façade faces a natural preserve where no further construction is allowed.
The two-story structure of steel consists of shop spaces at the ground level for young trainees and office spaces above. The steel structure employs truss bracing at the opposing corners, which cantilever out creating protective canopies for the delivery trucks below.
The cantilevers span partially over the stream whose surfaces reflect light and movement onto the repetitive aluminum and glass primary façade.
