Text description provided by architect.

Selvino is a mountain resort in the upper Seriana valley in the province of Bergamo, characterized by a low building density that features the alpine version of the typical suburban structure of many Lombardy countries.

The most prevalent type of architecture is a reinterpretation of the chalet -- a house of generous dimensions in the center surrounded by greenery.

However, the area was originally characterized by its valleys, which together with the vegetation of conifers, creates an equilibrium with nature, despite the large number of houses.

This project was born from the idea to not only change the scale of the intervention of the surroundings by incorporating more housing units, but also to evoke an Alpine character reminiscent of the homes that existed before the massive urbanization of recent decades.

In light of this, we have incorporated elements of local architecture. I refer in particular to the arcades present in rural construction in the valley. The relationship with the land is defined by a concrete plinth, which solves the three-meter height difference and supports the two upper floors, made entirely of wood.

The intention is to reinterpret the stone base, while the upper part of the house is a wooden structure, as in past, traditional design. Altogether there are 12 apartments, with a total area of about 1,000 square meters.

It’s important to emphasize the sustainability of the building. It is built in accordance with the Municipality of Selvino’s Innovative Energy Efficiency regulation, ensuring compliance with the following parameters.

use of photovoltaic solar panels, use of plant collectors for water heating, use of environmentally friendly materials, non-chemically treated natural wood structures and fire retardant coatings.

The frames are made of wood, with triple glazing to ensure better energy efficiency and prevent heat loss. The roof is ventilated and covered in a folded sheet of aluminum, which recovers rainwater for toilets and irrigation.
