The wedge is raised on one end to accommodate the live training room and observation area. This areas maximized versatility allows the back of the building to open through the use of glazed walls and bay doors. Roth Sheppard Architects were able to improve visual communication between training activities and allow the outdoors to enter the building.

The administrative building is the center of the circular Boulder Regional Fire Training Facility that is made up of 10 acres. Surrounding programs on the campus include a burn building, drill tower, and various training props to meet the unique needs of a fire training facility.

The administrative building of the Facility has a masonry shell within the red metal roof. Slicing through the program to the exterior is a spine running the length of the building.
