Text description provided by architect.

These two recovered buildings are located close to a mill of the fourteenth century along the river Parma in an area of great environmental value. Both buildings date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s.

In consideration of the history and nature of the place, the project has proposed, from the very beginning, to safeguard the main environmental characteristics by intervening on the buildings to make them suitable to being inhabited by a family but keeping the planivolumetrical characters, the materials for the facade and roofing, and the modularity and the linearity of prospects.

In the outer parts, in strong relationship with the buildings, an intervention was performed by simply recovering the existing vegetation and by consolidating the masonry stones that accompany the channels.

The first building is characterized by the presence of typological space - internal covered path.

The project accentuates the importance of this space, with large rear-coated oak boards which divide the interior with the exterior.

The living spaces located in the south at the same time overlook the garden and this path, allowing a constant visual relationship between the various parties in the ground and upper floors.

The second building has retained its original residential use as well as the main characters of distribution and formal: the openings in the sides walls, the exposed stone, the roof tiles.

Particular attention was given in the techniques of restoration of the walls, with the use of lime mortar.

The structure of the floors and the roof was made of oak wood. The panels of the portico were made with X Lam and covered with oak planks.

The furniture was designed by Marco Contini. The abundant presence of water allowed the use of a geothermal plant with the aim of a concrete environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.
