HOW TO CHANGE WEAKNESS IN TO STRENGHT?

Aquatic Center - "Wodny Park Tychy" is a unique public solution created entirely for city's needs. This innovative concept is located in coal based region Silesia - one of the most polluted regions in Europe.

The complex works in synergy with wastewater treatment plant serving as a bio-energy power plant. Together they create energy self-sufficient system, which also produces power for the Aquatic Center as well as for the city.

The idea allows the object, which typically consumes massive amounts of energy, to serve not only as a place of entertainment, but also green energy supplier and educational center.

IT’S A WASTE TO WASTE WASTE!

The process begins in the city itself which produces waste that is sent to water treatment plant. Methane and C02 are collected as biogas instead of being released into the atmosphere.

Then C02 is consumed by algae to enrich and purify the final product. That kind of biofuel is then converted in bio-thermal cogenerators to energy and heat.

This process is enough not only to power wastewater plant and Aquatic Center, but also its overproduction is sent to 40.000 inhabitants, where the whole process began. That is why "Wodny Park Tychy" is sometimes called “perpetuum mobile.

ARCHITECTURE INSPIRED BY NATURE

The whole idea of this development was to promote nature and sustainable approach to life.

Architecture is inspired by nearby Paprocany Lake and reflects it by using curved forms. Mission of the project was to create a cornerstone in process of building future sustainable cities.

Characteristic elliptical design of the building is dictated by maximizing energy efficiency. The main recreation area is also illuminated through ETFE skylight, reducing need for artificial light. Its shape is optimized to allow as much light as possible.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAYING – ARCHITECTURE GAMIFICATION AND EDUCATION CENTER

Very important part of Aquatic Center is the Educational Center. Interdisciplinary display, helps youngsters and adults understand why water is the most important particle in the universe.

Freshly acquired knowledge about physical processes, can be tested by playing real life game as a part of architecture gamification, which uses all Aquatic Center as context.

Finding clues hidden in architectural elements and using facts to solve problems enhance experiencing the building and perpetuates things learned in Educational Center, making Wodny Park Tychy truly multifunctional and innovative design.
